About the Village

Neustadt is tucked away in a relatively quiet corner of West Grey, and has a great deal to offer any visitor. It is located on Grey County Road 10, a little over an hour north of Guelph and Kitchener. Neustadt blends the old with the new in retaining its rural character as a picturesque country village steeped in history.

Some know the village as the birthplace of former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. Others may know it as the home of Neustadt Springs Brewery, but the village also has a wide variety of shops and eateries.

While Neustadt lies off the beaten path, its allure lies in its absence of franchises and big box stores. While strolling the village’s main thoroughfare, visitors can choose from an array of speciality shops featuring antiques, handmade items, fabrics, pottery, primitives, soaps and jams and much more. You can enjoy a meal at one of the many eateries or enjoy a picnic in the Neustadt Lion’s Park located off the David Winkler Parkway, north of the village.

Neustadt, which means New Town, in German….was named as one of the ten prettiest communities in Canada by Harrowsmith Country Life magazine in the April 2000 edition. Visitors will be greeted with a warm “Willkommen”
